YEAST SUSCEPTIBILITY TESTING - CANDIDA SPECIES

Collect

PCL Inpatients and Outpatients: Yeast susceptibility testing is performed automatically when Candida species are isolated from sterile sites. Contact Clinical Laboratory - Microbiology if further testing/information is required.

Clients: Actively growing isolate in pure culture.

Unacceptable Conditions

Sample not properly identified; mixed cultures; non-viable organism; frozen sample.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Offsite (Clients): Transport sealed container with pure culture on agar slant or media plate at ambient temperature. Place each specimen in individually sealed bags.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 2 weeks.

Isolate identification and source are required.

Amphotericin B: Values greater than 1 ug/mL are reported as Resistant. Values less than or equal to 1 ug/mL are reported as "No interpretative criteria available."

Posaconazole is reported as MIC Value only with no interpretative criteria available.
