Collect
Blood: 4.0 mL, lavender top, whole blood (EDTA). Invert several times to mix whole blood. Invert several times to mix blood. Deliver unprocessed whole blood to lab immediately at ambient temperature.
Bone Marrow:Place at least 2.0 mL bone marrow in a lavender top, (EDTA) tube. Invert several times to mix bone marrow. Invert several times to mix bone marrow. Deliver unprocessed bone marrow to lab immediately at ambient temperature.
Spinal Fluid: At least 1.0 mL CSF in sterile tube. Deliver to lab immediately in screw-capped, sterile vial at ambient temperature.Time Sensitive: Due to white cell degradation CSF samples should be collected on Monday thru Friday (by 1300) only. Samples collected late Friday afternoon or over the weekend will not be accepted by reference lab.
Solid Tissue: Obtain 200 mg of fresh tissue. Freeze tissue within 1 hour of collection. Send specimen frozen in plastic container. Parafin-embedded tissue is also acceptable. (Slides or paraffin shavings are not acceptable.)
Unacceptable Conditions
Blood and Bone Marrow:Plasma, serum or heparinized whole blood or bone marrow, frozen specimens.
Spinal Fluid: Hemolysis. WBC counts = 0. Specimens collected on Friday afternoon or over the weekend.
Fresh tissue submitted at ambient temperature.

Spinal Fluid:
